Former University of New Mexico basketball star and 11-year NBA veteran Kenny Thomas is taking over weekday afternoons on KNML (610 & 95.9 The Sports Animal) in Albuquerque. Thomas’ new show airs Monday through Friday from 4-6pm, debuting this week.

Thomas will cover both New Mexico and national sports stories. The program will feature insider interviews, player development insights, listener Q&A, and local high school and UNM spotlights, continuing KNML’s tradition of community-centered sports coverage. “Kenny is authentic, competitive, and connected-the perfect fit for afternoons,” said Brandon Vogt, Program Director for Cumulus Albuquerque. “He knows this market, he knows our teams, and he knows how to carry a locker room-level conversation on the radio. Kenny will make a huge impact in the community and on the airwaves.”

Thomas added, “Albuquerque made me. I’ve played here, raised my family here, and I’ve never stopped talking hoops here. Taking afternoons on The Sports Animal means more time with Lobos fans and more honest conversations with the 505.” The move expands Thomas’s presence on KNML, where his “Unfiltered with Kenny Thomas” airs on Saturdays. He also hosts “Lobos Live” on sister station News Radio 96.3 KKOB.

A first-round NBA draft pick in 1999, Thomas played 11 seasons in the league and is a member of the New Mexico Sports Hall of Fame. He remains active in regional sports and business initiatives throughout the state.
