What was set out to be a relaxing girls’ trip for beloved on-air host JoJo O’Neal out of Star 94.5 Cox Media Group (CMG) Orlando turned frightening and unpredictable as she was caught in Jamaica during historic Hurricane Melissa.

JoJo found herself stranded on the island for several days as the storm devastated homes, businesses, and communities across the island. Unsure when she’d be able to return home, she kept fans informed throughout via social media, sharing real-time updates and messages of hope.

Upon her return to the States, JoJo hit the ground running, turning her experience into a relief effort to help our Caribbean neighbors get back on their feet amidst the destruction. “JoJo for Jamaica” was born, and a relief action plan was initiated.

On the morning of Tuesday, November 11th, Star 94.5 turned a local Jamaican-owned bakery into the heart of the “JoJo for Jamaica” relief event. Caribbean Sunshine Bakery on West Colonial Drive welcomed the station and the community with open arms as donations overflowed nonstop from 7 am to 3 pm, filling a 26-foot box truck one-and-a-half times. All items will be distributed through Free Spirit Outreach in Jamaica, helping families and communities impacted by the disaster.

“I can’t thank our Central Florida community enough for donating in big numbers to the JoJo for Jamaica hurricane relief efforts! I couldn’t do it alone,” said JoJo O’Neal. “We are one big family, and we always take care of each other in times of great need. I’m truly grateful! Thank you to Caribbean Sunshine Bakery & Restaurant, and everyone involved!”

“Our purpose at CMG is to improve lives by informing, entertaining, and elevating our communities! And JoJo epitomizes our core purpose!” Says CMG Vice President, JC Campese. “JoJo has always entertained us. Yet, in this situation she kept us informed and her first thought after safely arriving home was how could she uplift the community she left behind! This is the power of live and local radio! Thank you, JoJo. And Welcome Home!” For more information or to find ways to continue supporting recovery efforts, visit Star945.com or follow @Star945Orlando on social media.
