Share of Ear® from Edison Research is the only audio measurement that captures daily listening across platforms, genres, devices, locations, and content types. Not only are subscribers able to understand where, when, how, and for what amount of time Americans 13+ interact with audio in a typical day, but they’re also able to understand how engagement differs across many audience segments. In total, Share of Ear captures 2 hours and 50 minutes of music listening a day among Americans 13+. But, for the first time ever, we are now releasing how time spent with music varies by what genre a person tells us they listen to most.

As of Q2 2025, those who tell us Hip-Hop/R&B is the kind of music they listen to most often spend the greatest amount of time with music in a day: 3 hours and 48 minutes. This is almost one full hour higher than the total audience. Alternative Rock fans are in second place, with this group spending approximately 3 hours and 19 minutes with music per day. Americans 13+ who listen to Oldies or Christian music the most spend the least daily time with music. The graph below shows daily music minutes across different genres, all available from Share of Ear.
