Meek Mill was briefly detained early on Saturday morning by New York City police officers outside a Manhattan nightclub. Footage obtained by TMZ shows the rapper standing with his hands behind his back as a crowd gathered outside a Halloween party. Meek later addressed the incident on X.
“They just pulled me out the car and cuffed me in front of the whole club, embarrassed the s**t out of me in NYC! “I’m not scared to go outside without a gun … they had guns in my face for no reason. Smh (shaking my head) I thought it was a prank,” the Going Bad singer wrote. Officers had responded to a report of a man with a firearm around 4am, and stopped a vehicle matching the given description and number plate, TMZ reported. No weapon was recovered, and all three occupants – including Meek – were released without arrest.
In 2008, Mill was convicted of possession of drug paraphernalia and second-degree possession of a loaded firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to 11 to 23 months in prison and eight years probation by a Philadelphia County Superior Court. He was released after seven months in early 2009 under a five-year probation agreement. In 2012, he was arrested for suspected marijuana used and violated his parole for travelling for concerts in the same year, according to Rolling Stone. In January 2023, Mill was pardoned from the 2008 charges by outgoing Governor Tom Wolf, reported the Associated Press.
