Music Artists Needed For MLK Celebration

The AFL-CIO is looking for musical performers that would like to help celebrate the AFL-CIO’s contribution in making Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday a national holiday. This celebration will highlight the AFL-CIO’s historic and ongoing fight in the struggle for civil rights, and worker’s rights. It will also celebrate the future of the union and its new leadership; Elizabeth Shuler is the AFL-CIO’s first woman President.

The event will be streamed internally to the AFL-CIO’s 12 million members on Sunday, January 16, 2022. Portions of the celebration will be streamed live from Washington, DC in front of the AFL-CIO building on Black Lives Matter Plaza and from Atlanta at the Ebenezer Baptist church. The event will include guest speakers and musical performances, as well as historical and tribute videos.

We plan to pre-tape most of the performances, so we are looking for performers that are down for the cause and would be available anytime between now and December 31 to record a performance that we would include in the program. We could film the performance, or if they are already filming a concert or video, we could use a clip from that concert or video. What’s important is that the introduction and messaging of the performance speaks to the AFL-CIO’s mission and its membership.

This is a multicultural observance of the MLK holiday, so artists from any and all music genres are welcome. I appreciate any thoughts you have regarding musical artists you think would like to be part of this celebration. I cannot thank you enough for your support in making this an inspiring event that will honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr and highlight the diversity of the working men and women of America. All genres are welcomed. For more information contact advising consultant Harry Lyles at: hlyles@urbanradio.com.
