As we all know radio has competition coming from so many areas it isn’t funny. More are probably on the way. Music streaming services have now, today displaced radio as the #1 platform for music discovery. The question now becomes what can radio do to fight this.
Everyone has a playlist and a device in their hands. One thing we know is radio might start by letting talent on all dayparts talk. Radio is and has always been a companion. Telling talent on-air to shut up is and could be the number one biggest failures of radio. Good talk breaks have never killed any music driven format. If you have good talent, let them talk. If you have mediocre talent get new talent.
The success choices is on all program directors and radio management. It doesn’t work when your station sounds like Spotify or Pandora.
