The U.S. Senate has officially confirmed Olivia Trusty to serve as a commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), filling the vacancy left by former Commissioner Nathan Simington and giving Republicans a 2-1 majority on the currently three-member panel.
Trusty, a veteran policy advisor with experience both on Capitol Hill and in the private sector, was nominated by President Donald J. Trump earlier this year. Her confirmation drew praise from key industry leaders and fellow commissioners.
FCC Chairman Brendan Carr welcomed Trusty’s appointment, stating, “Olivia brings years of valuable experience to the agency, including her public service on Capitol Hill and time in the private sector. I am confident that her deep expertise and knowledge will enable her to hit the ground running, and she will be an exceptionally effective FCC Commissioner.”
The National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) also expressed support. NAB President and CEO Curtis LeGeyt said, “Her extensive policy experience and deep understanding of the issues impacting local broadcasters make her a strong addition to the Commission at a pivotal time for our industry. We look forward to working with Commissioner Trusty to advance policies that empower local television and radio stations to better serve their communities.”
Trusty joins the FCC at a time when media ownership rules, spectrum policy, broadband deployment, and AI regulation remain at the forefront of industry debate. Her confirmation sets the stage for potential shifts in regulatory priorities as the Commission prepares for its June 26 open meeting.
